A beautiful and rare boxed game.
It consists of playings cards from the eight to the Aces in four suits, each of which has a musical score on it.
The cards must be laid out in the order 8, 9, 10,J, Q, K, Ace - but the suits maybe in any order -
which I think means there are 65,536 variations - all of which "form a perfect tune"

Protean Dances - Complete - Cards - very good / Rules inside box lid / Box - very good

And for the Gentleman
“A Virgin that’s old and thin in her shape – The stars have decreed to be your wedded mate
The Christmas season in the Georgian era, was still based on the Twelfth Night festival running from Christmas eve to the twelfth day after. It was a season of entertainment, delightful excitment and merry-making.
In the late 18th century to early 19th century Twelfth Night celebrations were at the height of their popularity. Twelfth Night celebrations were based on the Medieval tradition of disguise, elaborate display and role reversal led by an elected master of ceremonies

This is an early children's game use to teach multiplication. There are two cards with a problem on one card (ie 3X2) and the answer (ie 6) on the other. There is also a picture of a bird or animal across the cards that matches when the correct pieces are put together. (A later version of this game made by John Betts c1850)
It is similar to The Pence Game. Carvalho made two Table Games to teach Multiplication and LSD around the same period.

Multiplication Cards - Condition - Cards have been used but are in good condition - this set is 12 sets of cards (2, 3, and 4 times tables). It is difficult to know if this is complete, or whether it was divided into three different sets etc. No rules or box

A very unusual card game in that all the pictures are etched engravings printed with bronze powder. The cards show, in great detail, the style of dress and sceptre that the monarchs hold.
The cards are arranged by century, a list of monarchs for each century and detailed picture of each monarch. We have had a set with the patterned backs in four different colors, as described in the British Museum. However this set has backs of all the same color
Jane Roberts wrote a quantity of poetry, some of which was published anonymously, and a number of unpublished poems and draft plots for novels survive in her notebooks. She was the inventor of The Royal Historical Game of Cards, mentioned in her journal and published by Robert Hardwicke in 1835 - ref A History of Playing Cards, Hargrave,

Condition - The Royal Historical Game of Cards / Cards - complete - very good just light use / Rules - lacking but some details from the BM included / Box - original - two part box - base has splits at the edges of the part of the box that slips into the top / front section of top is split on two edges

Play Card Grammar
This card game is very rare, we can find no reference to it. William Sallis made a small number of board games, and spelling games. He also made at least two card games - The Cottage of Contentment, which is similar in style to this game, but much more frivolous, and this game
Comic Play Grammar consists of 41 cards. The purpose of the game appears to be to teach children grammar.
The cards are numbered from 1 to 15 and different numbers of cards for each number are as follows
1x8(+QV), 2x6, 3x5, 4x3, 5x3, 6-10 all x2, 11-15 all x1. One of the 1 card is Queen Victoria which does not seem to fit with the others in the way of teaching grammar

Condition – This appears complete from the make-up of the cards and the fact that the box is full and could not accept another card. Cards are all very pretty and in very good condition (but slightly concave). The original box is good, some wear at the edge. There are no rules.
Postage / As postage often changes it will be provided at time of purchase. Postage will be at cost rounded up to the nearest £1.00 to cover packaging.
