This interesting and rare game was made just sfter Nellie Bly was travelling round the world trying to brake Phileas Fogg‘s record as told by Jules Verne. It was possibly designed as a race between the two ladies who racing each other in different directions.
Nellie Bly was already well known for her exposure of an asylum (10 Days in a Mad House). She was working for The World Newspaper who followed her progress.
At the same time, The New York Newspaper, Cosmopolitan, sponsored its own reporter, Elizabeth Bisland, to beat the time of both Phileas Fogg and Bly. Bisland would travel the opposite way around the world. To sustain interest in the story, The World organized a “Nellie Bly Guessing Match” in which readers were asked to estimate Bly’s arrival time to the second, with the Grand Prize consisting at first of (only) a free trip to Europe and, later on, spending money for the trip

As a result of rough weather on her Pacific crossing, she arrived in San Francisco on the White Star liner Oceanic on January 21, two days behind schedule. However, World owner Pulitzer chartered a private train to bring her home, and she arrived back in New Jersey on January 25, 1890, at 3:51 p.m. Critically, while in England, Bisland was told (and apparently believed) she had missed her intended ride, the swift German steamer Ems leaving from Southampton, even though her publisher had bribed the shipping company to delay its departure. She was thus forced to catch the slow-going Bothnia on January 18, departing from Queenstown (Cobh), Ireland, ensuring that Bly would prevail.

Bisland's ship did not arrive in New York until January 30, so she completed her trip in 76 1/2 days, also ahead of Fogg's fictional record..
The Board Game follows the route taken by Nellie Bly as far as we can see. through England, France (where she met Jules Verne in Amiens), Brindisi, the Suez Canal, Colombo (Ceylon), the Straits Settlements of Penang and Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan

The strange thing is that the numbers start as 1 in London – but the rules that play can start from anywhere – Possibly not a good seller in the States so made more flexible to encourage interest from the UK

Race Around the World /Condition - Complete - Board Game with two dials - one removable that stores markers and rules - Book style board - cover is scuffed and has been repaired with tape on the back - playing area is a little grubby and scuffed at the edges and around the dials - original rules and period if not original markers

This game – one of the Upitee Series – is an early Motor Racing Game.
In common with these games the “board” is built from 20 cards. A dice is used to determine the number of place to move forward. Normal accidents and incidents occur as per the early days of motoring..

c1906 Pip Pip - C W Faulkner's Motor Racing Game - Condition - Pip Pip – Cards (Board) are very good – lovely period art work – 6 playing pieces with original metal stands are all good – although two have the same number - probably a packing error at the time when everything was done by hand – Rules good – light foxing Box- complete but split on two corners - lid detached from hinge (usually happens with these games) scuffed and a little grubby.

Postage / As postage often changes it will be provided at time of purchase. Postage will be at cost rounded up to the nearest £1.00 to cover packaging.

This is made by JWS (Spears of Bavaria) and is a German Market Edition of "Voyage through the Clouds"
The Airship travels to numerous identified locations including: the Alps, Switzerland, Florence, Rome, Venice, Vienna, Berlin, North Sea, London, New York, Paris, Strasbourg. The game has 70 numbered positions with various adventures the players encounter including heavy storms and fires
This version has six different colourful lead models of balloons and airships are playing pieces (as opposed to card or metal zepplins in other versions) The board is very large and folds into four - the centre fold is taped, the vertical folds are cut (ie the board is in two pieces with each pieces folded again) We believe this is how the game was sold as the box is made to hold the board (in depth) but the board could not be folded in four to fit as it is made of thick strong card, so needs to be in two seperate pieces.

A Voyage through the Clouds - Condition - Board is very good - no damage / Six metal pieces on stand are also very good / Rules - inside box lid in German (but a photocopy of English rules could be provided on request / Box - Slightly scuffed and light damage at corners/edges - missing part of one side
Postage
/ UK 1st Class £6.00 / European £7.50 / Worldwide £9.50

A very pretty and interesting games board produced first in 1909 (this may be a little later as there are card playing pieces rather than the normal metal which might indicate a metal shortage due to WWI)
The object of the game is to race your airship around the world. Destinations include: London (The Tower of London), New York, Berlin, Vienna, Venice and Rome. Lovely artwork.

Zeppelin Voyage - Condition - Board is very good - no damage / Four card playing pieces - good, one with replacement base, one has a crease/slight damage / Rules - a photocopy from abox lid is included Postage / As postage often changes it will be provided at time of purchase.
