NOUVEAU STYLE CONTINENTAL WHIST GAMING BOX
This item looks like a book
measuring 14 by 12 by 3 cms - It has enamelled playing cards with continental
style pips on the front - It opens to reveal in the lid 4 MOP whist markers
(one side having a suit symbol on it and the other 1 to 4 dots for scoring)
- and four more enamelled cards as decoration - there also appears to be
a space for a rule booklet but this is missing - Inside the base is space
for two packs of cards - being continental these cards are 8.5 by 5.5 cms
- The item is made of wood covered with possibly leather or similar material
- The item is in excellent condition - no damage to the enamelling or to
the box surface - the lock which look v ornate and has a decorative padlock
on it is made of white metal (there is a small mark on one edge but not
clear enough to read - we believe it is silver) This catch does not close
firmly -there appears to be e a small metal strip is missing - The interior
oval panel has a very slight stain at the base - otherwise it is excellent
- The cards in are period French cards but a two piquet decks not full
