Through extensive research and copies of trade adverts Michael chart the range of playing card related products through periods of immense popularity to those declining post First War years. Packed with graphics of not just their playing cards but also the boxed sets, the whist markers and other scores of lines they produced.
Besides being a really interesting read of a company that so reflected the social history of the time it also charts and illustrates the playing card related product line for the collector and enthusiast. There is no other book like it on the subject.

One of 250 numbered copies issued in commemoration of Armistice Day. Illustrations printed by the Meriden Gravure Co. Bound in quarter burgundy morocco and black-and-white cloth with the title stamped in gilt on the spine. It is the only such publication which concentrates exclusively on cards issued to commemorate Battles and Wars. Published in 1937 it covers cards, with illustrations, from 1640 to 1936. Good, Strong illustrations of decks covered with use full notations. If you collect War Cards or are interested then this book is a necessity.
