1861 Playing Card Queen Victoria Coat of Arms

This is a single playing card bearing the coat of arms - Of Victoria and Albert - It is a copy of a pattern made for her wedding in 1839 - It is double ended without indices - According to John Berry this deck was made for the Great Exhibition of 1861 - It was withdrawn at her request - The guildhall library has only two cards Queen and Jack of Diamonds - This card is Jack of Diamonds - (it seems as if these were sample cards and somehow were not withdrawn - (We do however have a complete deck which we believe is v unusual)

c1863 Coat of Arms for the Prince of Wales , issued the year of his marriage.

The Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, married Alexandra of Denmark in 1863 and these cards were obviously issued either in anticipation of this or to satisfy the marriage frenzy.

They are made by Goodall and Company and the Ace of Spades has an erect feather; the scarcer of the Goodall aces.

The cards are complete 52/52 and have been played with. No bends, tears etc and we would rate them at 7/10.

First Class / Air Mail Postage: to UK - £2.00 / to Europe - £2.50 / to Other - £3.00 - insured is an additional £6.00 [U.K.] £7.50 [other]

C1870s - Superior Club House Playing Cards by Josh. Reynolds & Sons, London, with original packaging.

The playing cards are  double ended courts (R2.1) - plain  pink backs - Wrapper is either W1 or W2 ( the flap which show the difference has been torn off) the address suggests 1860s/early1870s – Reynolds moved c early 1870s – The cards are wrapped firstly in a plain pink cover, then in a Reynold's wrapper – "Josh Reynolds & Sons Highlanders", the tax wrapper is applied to this label and then on top of the tax label is another Reynolds label – "Superior Club House Playing Cards - 27 to 30 Vere Street London"  - The tax wrapper is a solid type and Reynolds have printed their name on it.  Cards (52/52) are mint – wrapper is torn and parts are missing but still very interesting.

c1870/80 Bancks and Brothers

small format playing cards (HB6) with unusual coloring  of turquoise / yellow / red turned double ended courts with plain slightly glossy backs – Cards are complete 52/52 and measure 54 cms by 83 cms (frame of courts measures 49 cms by 76 cms).  – The Ace of Spades is cut very close to the lettering at the base - Interestingly the double ends are not mirror images of each other having small difference to features – ie size of noses and mouths  – The suggestion is that these cards were used for Piquet but we are not sure why that would be and feel a form of Patience is more likely at this time – Condition is very good light use – no damage but slightly grubby on the glossy backs.

Insured Postage is free on this item.

1885 WILLIS PLAYING CARDS MINIATURE INDEX PIPS
This piquet deck of playing cards (32/22) have interesting indices - they are mini pictures of cards in each corner - Interestingly the mini court indices are full length courts but Willis appeared never to manufacture full length court cards - They produced these miniature indices on two different sets of cards - once with normal turned courts over the pip and this deck - which seemed to be produced a year later where the indices are turned and the pips placed in the other corner.- The backs are decorative with three smaller pictures almost like a postcards sent from a holiday –in pinks on blue – Complete 32/32 – Condition excellent/near mint

Insured Postage is free on this item.
