1839 Historical Amusement – A New Game - Published by Nicholas Carpenter This game consists of 36 hand colored cards showing the monarchs from 1066 to 1837 and 98 small answer cards with details events or people that took place in the reign. There is also a booklet with the 98 questions and answers in it. The game is a collecting / educational game. It was published a number of times and this version can be accurately dated as a later version with 100 questions list the date of Queen Victoria’s wedding (1840) The cards are mint, the booklet excellent just a little wear on the seam. The game is boxed in wooden (?yew) box. The box is excellent with a hand colored picture on the sliding lid. The box measures 3.5 by 4.75 by 2.25 inches. Two corners are slightly loose at the joints – no damage.- Postage Category B |

Worshipful 2004 Nelson Trafalgar Playing Cards Double Deck Bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar - These cards issued by the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards to denote - the Masters term 2004 to 2005 celebrate the - Bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson's - heroic victory which left England master of the seas for the next hundred years. - Besides marking the victory the face of the cards are a replication of a those made by I (James) Hardy circa 1820 and shown full length woodblock courts as well as the deck bearing no indices. the association with Hardy is two fold. He was the Master 1803 /1804 and Thomas Hardy was Nelson's Captain of the HMS Victory - Hardy being with Lord Nelson when he died. - The cards have the traditional Ace of Spades displaying the Master, D Mark Ladd, and this year there is an additional Ace of Spades replicating the Duty Ace from the original Hardy Deck. The master has added three Joker cards which were only added in the late 19th Century but have become a feature of modern decks.T he cards are gold edged and are mint, one deck with a white border the other with a blue.
