The Blackamoor, Punch, Toby and other characters -
This is a children's card game from, we think, 1920s Depicting characters from the children's comic
TOBY It consists of 12 sets of 4 cards "at Dawn", "at noon" "in the Afternoon"" and "in the Evening"
The characters include The Blackamoor a black gentleman Mr Punch - from Punch and Judy Judy - from Punch and Judy Henrietta - a hen Toby - the dog and star of the game And various other characters from the comic The cards are undamaged - but a little dirty with use (one is slightly stained - see scan) The art work is lovely and the colors are vibrate. The two part box is fair Missing one small side from the top And three small sides from the base The picture on the front and The ad for the magazine Toby on the base There are no rules - but the game is "Happy Families" collecting style The game is published by G Heath Robinson & J Birch Ltd 17-18 Tooks - Cursitor St, London EC4- Postage Category A

GPH1064 Picture c1930s SPEARS HAPPY FAMILIES -What appears to be an early version of this game but made in England (factory only opened in 1930s) - The cards are square cornered red and white patterned backs and look as if hand stencilled (but at this period would not have been) - and a lovely example of this game - complete in original box - cards undamaged- Postage Category A 30 15
