Victorian Ivory Inlaid Cribbage Box with carved ivory pegs (as warriors) probably made in India. This cribbage board is Victorian folding box and measures 29 by 9.75 by 3 cms when opened The box has ivory inserts for scoring and is decorated with a form a inlay (possibly Bombay work) around the edges and down the centre. The box has the same inlay on the inner rim of the box. The corners are neatly edged with ivory. The four pegging pieces are beautiful hand carved ivory each with a small peg on one foot to allow for pegging Three held a spear in their right hand and one in his left two have a peg on their left foot and two on the right foot - The condition of the board is v ood but there is some damage the pictures should show this but to summarise 0 the inner box excellent all inlay complete Sides one ivory strip missing at on end lid outer inlay small part on inlay (1 by 0.4 cms) missing at fold two small parts of inlay missing (0.8 by 0.2 cms and 0.5 by 0. cms) on centre inlay strip (2 by 0.4 cms) missing one ivory piece cracked The ivory edging is complete The four carved warriors are v good but two are missing their spears and one has only part of his spear.- all fit into the board and stand up. Original hook and eye clip to close the box.- Postage Category C |
