c1890s F H AYERS' "THE EXPERT ANGLER - A NEW PARLOUR GAME" This is a very upmarket edition of a v popular Victorian Table Game - Almost certainly made by F H Ayers (the rules on the inside lid match the rules for this game in his compendium rules exactly) The item consists of 48 turned wooden "fish" with a hook at the top and a number on the base - 6 wooden "rods" with brass hooks in a wooden box approx 15 by 4 by 2 inches. Rules on the inside lid - A number of fishes are put in the pool and the rest divided amongst the players - two people opposite each other try to catch a fish - when one succeeds he has to guess whether the number on the bottom is odd or even if correct he adds the fish to his pool this carries on as long as the guesses are correct - The numbers are only used to decide the winner if both leading players have the same number of fish at the end of the game - The condition is v good - four fishes have had new numbers put on them and may be replacement fishes as they appear v slightly larger. One of the rods is missing its brass end - The woods are lovely colors - the fish mahoney and the rods and box lighter maybe rosewood - The box is v good - The lid has a couple of v light cracks - not the full length of the box and non distracting - The label is complete- Postage Category C |
