1795 - SYSTEMATICAL COMPENDIUM OF GEOGRAPHY - 1795 - Published by The Rev John Hunt - 52/52 - AS - Asia, AH - Europe, AD America, and Ac Africa - each suit describing one continent - The indices K QJ are used as initial letters of Kingdoms, Quarter and Jslands - Values appears within suit sign on pip cards - hearts and diamonds have red border, small start appears on the border of court card - The title card states "The second edition carefully revised and corrected "- "Dedicated by Permission to E Montagu Esq - One of the Masters of the High Court of Chancery"- The cards are undamaged and in v good condition - obviously a little foxed due to age but nothing that detracts from their interest - There is a photocopy of an instruction card dated 1790 - as this is a second edition it may be later - but is prior to 1803 as Spain still owned Louisiana - Great Geographical interest and also a deck of playing cards- Postage Category A |

c1843 PRETTY PICTURES WITH EASY READING Learning To Read Cards- A circular wooden box containing cards to teach children to read with a hand colored picture of the sentence on the reverse - The box is not full so some cards are missing but unlike an alphabet it is difficult to tell how many probably about 5 cards. There are 19 cards with hand colored pictures on the back and four with sentences on both sides which are in keeping with the other cards - two have a slightly different print style - but are in keeping with the rest - Condition of both the box and cards is excellent - Cards are 2" in diameter and fit snugly into the box - Box is made of wood the lid being hand Colored and varnished - a small part of the picture has been rubbed off - On the base is (hand inscribed) "Catherine Gillett from her dear Uncle Edward 23rd jus 18th 1843"- Postage Category C |

c1850 JOHN BETTS MULTIPLICATION TABLE IN RHYME (Part One) - Is the first half of the table consisting of 96 cards forming 48 illustrations" Complete in Original Wooden Box with a picture of two cards on the front - This game consists of 96 cards (48 pairs) (one card of the 96 is a colored photocopy - difficult to spot as a replacement as it is on the same card as the other pieces) - Each has a multiplication and a rhyming couplet underneath - ie There is also a hand colored picture describing the rhyme ie Twice 1 are 2 - "Pray how do you do?" picture of gentleman lifting his hat to a lady - Left hand card has "Twice 1" - "Pray How" and picture of gentleman on it - right hand card has "are 2", "do you do?" and picture of lady on it.- Part One covers the multiplication tables from 2x1 through 2x12 - up to 6x5 through 6x12 (in order to make each game (2-6 and 7-12 equal the numbers were slightly manipulated ie there is 5x4 and 6x5 (as well as 5x6 and 4x5) - The cards in this set are v good - slight foxing and a couple have a light crease - the box is v good - but missing on small end - Bright and colourful picture.- Postage Category c |
